The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on September 18, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the That’s Amore Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations.

Scoring higher with patrons, the restaurant boasts a 4.7 out of 5 starts from Google Reviews averaged on 146 reviews.  On the Facebook page Amore Italian Restaurant and Pizzeria scores 409 of 5 stars averaged on 64 reviews.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Soda heads, a food contact surface, were observed to have mold-like substance residue and was not clean to sight and touch.
  • Underside of Manotowoc ice machine’s production area, a food contact surface, was observed to have pink, brown and black mold-like substance accumulations.
  • Two garbage cans observed being used as food storage of spaghetti sauce in basement walk-in cooler: must be NSF food-grade containers.
  • Broken lid hinges and damaged gasket observed on basement large chest-style freezer.
  • Interior surface of ice machine lid is cracked and needs repairing with materials approved for food equipment.
