Police in Harrisburg say a man died after apparently stealing a car in the city.
Authorities say they responded approximately 11:35 am today to a call from a vehicle owner who stating that their vehicle was stolen. Officers say he owner tried to follow the vehicle but lost site of it a few blocks away. The owner returned home and calling police saying the vehicle was last observed in the area of S. 25th Street and Brookwood Street.
Officers responded to the area observing the suspect vehicle at S. 20th Street and Kensington Street in the city. Responding cruisers confirmed that the vehicle was stolen and attempted to stop it. Authorities say the driver refused to stop the vehicle and fled from the officers. Officers say the vehicle was increasing speed and the pursuit was terminated. The pursuing officers stopped and parked their vehicles.
The vehicle continued accelerating, lost control, and crashed into a large tree on the 2500 block of Brookwood Street. The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Two other occupants were also transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police have not yet, at this time, identified any of the involved parties.
