Police: Maryland armed robber caught in West Manheim Township following brief chase

Hanover, PA

On Saturday February 23, 2019 at around 6 AM, West Manheim Police (WMTPD) were advised to be on the look out for an armed robbery suspect who had just robbed multiple convenience stores in the Manchester, Maryland area.

At about 6:15 AM, WMTPD officers say they observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of two convenience stores located in West Manheim Townsuip.  After observing a traffic violation, patrol officers say they attempted to perform a vehicle stop with the vehicle and operator.

Authorities say the driver  fled from the patrol officers through a residential neighborhood and into an agricultural field where police say the driver abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, tossing a gun into the woods.

West Manheim patrol officers apprehended the 26 year old Maryland man in the field and recovered the firearm who was  transported to central booking and charged with numerous felonies and misdemeanors.

Police say their investigation continues with other Maryland and Pennsylvania law enforcement agencies for numerous pending armed robberies which were committed in both states.

West Manheim Police were assisted by Penn Township Police, Hanover Borough Police, and members of the Carroll County, Maryland Sheriff’s Office and there is no active threat.
