Police say a suspect in a York County retail theft pulled his firearm and discharging as he came into contact with the police, prompting an officer to return fire, killing the suspect, according to Pennsylvania State Police are now investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred around 8:36 p.m. Saturday at the Motel 6 in Manchester Township on Route 30.
Pennsylvania State Police at York spokesman Trooper James Spencer gave the following statement”
“The York County District Attorney’s office requested the state police’s Major Case Team to respond to the Motel 6 on the 100 block of Arsenal Road last night to investigate an officer-involved shooting.
The preliminary investigation shows that earlier that night, a West Manchester Township officer and a Northern York County Regional officer responded to the Motel 6 after learning the suspect in a retail theft from earlier that day was staying there.
Officers found the suspect in the hallway. That’s when he pulled a gun and shot it. The West Manchester Township officer returned fire, hitting the suspect.
The officers provided first aid and called an ambulance, but the man, whose name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the hospital.”
No officers were injured.
The York County Coronor identified the suspect as as 29-year-old Logan Montgomery.
