PA Game Commission searching for person who shot Bald Eagle

Harrisburg, PA

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says a  bald eagle was shot late last week in Westmoreland County, near or along the West Penn Hiking Trail, near Derry. It was reported to the Pennsylvania Game Commission’s Southwest Region on Friday evening. 

State Game Warden Brehun reported to the scene and was able to retrieve the bird, which appeared to have been shot with a small caliber rifle. He took the bird to Verona Wildlife Works. UDue to the extent of its injuries, the eagle had to be euthanized.

There is an ongoing investigation regarding this case. Anyone with information is being asked to report it to the Southwest Region Office at 724-238-9523 OR the Operation Game Thief Hotline at 1-888-PGC-8001.
