Authorities say a routine traffic stop on Lehigh Street in Wilkes-Barre Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 11:29PM was anything but routine when a woman fled the vehicle telling a police officer she’d been sexually assaulted by the driver, 24 year old Derek King-Kears.

After stopping for the police officer the suspect fled from the vehicle, and the victim ran to the officer reporting she was just sexually assaulted by the suspect. Several officers responded and located the suspect hiding in the back yard of a residence.

Wilkes-Barre Police say they collected evidence and the King-Kears was arrested and later arraigned on multiple charges.

King-Kears was cited by Hazleton City Police for Disorderly Conduct Engage In Fighting in September 2018 court records indicate he’s failed to respond to at this time. King-Kears remains jailed after being unable to make a bond of $250,000.
