Wilkes-Barre Police arrest 15 year old in robbery, related offenses

On August 14, 2019, the Wilkes-Barre Police say they were dispatched to the area of Covell Street for a reported fight in progress/armed robbery.

Police say they determined two male subjects were robbed by three other male subjects. The suspects were described as two black makes and one white male suspect. One was described as wearing a white shirt, one with a black shirt and one with no shirt. The victims stated that the male with the black shirt and afro type haircut had displayed a handgun during the robbery and advised the victims to empty their pockets.

According to authorities a suspect description was sent out to the additional police units who began checking the area for the suspects who were to have fled towards Arch Street. Police say the suspect with the black shirt was stopped in the area of 100 Poplar Street. Officers alleged they approached the suspect who was found to be carrying a black handgun.

Police say the suspect, a 15-year-old juvenile, was detained at the scene and subsequently taken into custody after a show up with the victims. The suspect, who had injuries from the armed robbery was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

According to police the suspect continually remained uncooperative and threatened to shoot the arresting officers. Further investigation revealed that the handgun was a pellet gun which was secured as evidence.

The juvenile was charged as an adult due to the nature of the crime and incarcerated pending further court action in the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.
