Stroud Area Regional Police Department arrest alleged shooter in Sunday night incident

East Stroudsburg, PA

On Sunday, August 11, 2019,  at approximately 7:45PM the Stroud Area Regional Police say theywere dispatched to Paradise Trail in Stroud Township for a report of a male ramming into vehicles with his truck and firing a gun at the caller.

Police say two males were leaving the Coppola’ s Pizzeria lot when they observed a white male, later identified as 56-year-old Ronald Strunk Jr. from Stroud Township, intentionally striking a parked vehicle with his truck. Strunk then began striking another parked vehicle. There was a brief exchange of words and gestures between Strunk and the males. Strunk then pulled out a firearm and fired a shot in the direction of the males, striking a retaining wall. The males then fled the scene and called 911. Strunk also fled the area in his truck.

As Officers were on scene speaking to the victims, police say they heard branches breaking in the woods and then observed Strunk’s truck stuck in the wooded area behind Coppola’s pizza. Strunk refused to listen to Officers verbal commands to exit the truck. After a brief standoff Strunk finally exited his vehicle via the driver’s side window and climbed onto the roof of the truck, eventually complying with orders to get down onto the ground. After physically resisting arrest Strunk was taken into custody. A firearm was recovered from the roof of Strunk’s truck.

No injuries were sustained by anyone involved in this incident.

Strunk was charged with the following crimes:
• 2 Counts of Aggravated Assault (F1)
• 2 Counts of Aggravated Assault (F2)
• 2 Counts of Simple Assault (M2)
• 1 Count of Resisting Arrest (M2)
• 2 Counts of Recklessly Endangering Another Person (M2)

Strunk was arraigned by Magistrate Higgins and placed in the Monroe County Correctional Facility on $5000 bail set by District Court Judge C. Daniel Higgins Jr.

The Stroud Area Regional Police would like to thank the Pennsylvania State Police and Pocono Township Police for their assistance in this incident.
