Scranton Police arrest man in kidnapping and rape near Heritage Trail

Scranton, PA

Scranton Police say they’ve arrested Aaron Philip Sherman, 25 years old,  of Tunkhannock on charges of Rape, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Kidnapping, and False Imprisonment.

On September 22, 2019 at about 2:30 AM a woman reported to police that she was walking to work and was on the West Elm St. Bridge when she was struck from behind, grabbed around the neck, and dragged to a wooded area near the Heritage Trail. There her arms were duct taped together and she was raped by an unknown white male.

Police say Sherman transported her against her will to Luzerne County where he raped her again before she was later released. Scranton Police Detectives were assigned the investigation and gathered various video and forensic evidence which ultimately led them to identify and locate the suspect.

Aaron Sherman was taken into custody yesterday afternoon without incident and charged with the above criminal offenses.
