Update: Scranton Police arrest Christopher Mele for attempted homicide in attack on 18 month old child

Scranton, PA

Update: Police in Scranton say the child in this incident has passed away and they expect more charges in the case.

Scranton Police announced the arrest of 32 year old Christopher Mele of Scranton on charges of criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, strangulation, and related charges. Yesterday afternoon police responded to a home in West Scranton for an 18-month old in respiratory distress.

Police say a medical evaluation of the child revealed life threatening physical injuries and an investigation by detectives determined that those injuries are believed to be intentionally inflicted by the Mele.

Mele was arraigned and is currently in the Lackawanna County Prison.

The child is currently in extremely critical condition at Geisinger Children’s Hospital. Scranton Police say their thoughts and prayers are with the child.
