Luzerne County Prison Drug raid results in arrests for 4 female prisoners

Wilkes-Barre, PA

A joint operation with the Luzerne County District Attorney’s Drug Task Force, Luzerne County Corrections Administration and Hanover Township Narcotics Unit led to the investigation and arrests of four (4) inmates at the Luzerne County Prison on March 14, 2019, for the distribution of meth, at the Luzerne County Prison in a raid on the prison at 8:30AM

Luzerne County Prison Officials contacted the District Attorney’s Office to report narcotics trafficking in the Luzern County Prison following the seizure of methamphetamine in an inmate’s cell.

Authorities say their investigation revealed that Jamie Lynn Brownlie smuggled methamphetamine into the prison by hiding it in her body cavity. Brownlie and Gambardella began to distribute the meth to other female inmates, by themselves, and also utilized two inmates, Hosey and Chodnicki, who held positions of “monitors” within the inmate system, to distribute the meth. In return, Brownlie and Gambardella received food, clothing and hygiene products as payment for the meth.

On March 14, 2019, Drug Task Force officers with the District Attorney’s Drug Task Force transported Brownlie, Chodnicki, Gambardella and Hosey to Central Court and the subjects were arraigned before District 11-1-02 Judge Thomas Malloy Sr. and each received bail of $75,000.00 and were returned to the Luzerne County Prison.

On March 13, 2019, Brownlie was arrested, on a Luzerne County Failure to Appear warrant, by Sugarloaf Township Police Department and returned to the Luzerne County Prison after failing to attend court ordered drug rehabilitation.

Methamphetamine was seized from the cell of Brownlie and Gambardella removed meth from her body cavity upon being notified that Task Force Officers obtained a Search Warrant. A field test was conducted which showed positive for meth.
