The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on November 13, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the China III in Tannersville on Route 611 was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 18 violations were found.

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Observed unapproved sourced employee foods stored with foods available for sale in the facility with potential of cross-contamination stored in walk-in freezer.
  • The Person in Charge did not demonstrate adequate knowledge of food safety in this food facility as evidenced by this non-compliant inspection.
  • Observed approximately 3 large live mature cockroaches and 5 immature live cockroaches under cook line.
  • Observed approximately 10-15 dead mature and immature cockroaches under cook line.
  • Internal surfaces of microwave oven observed with old food residue
  • Equipment food contact surfaces and utensils are not being immersed for a minimum of 10 seconds in the chlorine sanitizing compartment of the manual warewashing sink.
  • Food facility hot water heater is not producing enough hot water to supply hand or warewash sinks at the time of this inspection.
  • Dry food storage area of the food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning.
  • Hood ventilation system observed with build up of static dust, grease and webbing in need of more frequent cleaning.
  • Cook line floors and wall surrounding area of the food facility is extremely dirty, dusty, and in need of cleaning.
  • Raw animal foods were stored above ready to eat foods in the walk-in cooler.
  • Common bowl no handle observed stored in bulk food containers in storage area and cook line.
  • Sanitizers used to sanitize equipment and utensils are not available for use during all hours of operation.
  • Observed cutting board cracked broken and not a cleanable surface.
  • Customer self-service single-use tableware is not displayed in a manner so that only the handles are touched by customers.
  • The hand wash sink located in the cook line area does not have water at a temperature of at least 100°F.
  • Egg separation trays which are intended to be a single-service or single-use article, observed being used for food storage other than eggs.
  • Food employees observed not wearing proper hair restraints, such as nets or hats.
  • Food Employee is not using available sanitizer test strips or test kit to determine sanitizer concentration.
  • Observed accumulation of old food residue on underside of bane marie prep table in need of cleaning.
  • Observed bane marie hood covers, with an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, debris on non-food contact surfaces.
