The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on January 13, 2020 after receiving a complaint from the public. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Friendly’s Restaurant just outside Pottsville was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 2 violations were found.
The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:
- Observed numerous deceased fruit flies located on top food contact surfaces of ice cream cup/utensil storage shelving and on lower storage shelving units located adjacent to ice cream freezers.
- Observed deceased fruit flies located on upper surfaces of shelving unit above grill area microwave.
- Live fruit fly activity located in following areas: Walls/ceiling near dish wash unit, general area of ice cream dispense/service area, and at consumer seating booths particularly on walls/booths closest to windows and booths nearest to restrooms.
