Hazleton Police say they arrest man who threatened schools, Christian Earl Diehl of Hazleton, 28 years of age for the Threat to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction

Early Saturday morning.  September 21, 2019, Hazleton Mayor Jeff Cusat received information from a citizen, authorities say resulted in the Hazleton Police Department obtaininga message threatening the Arthur Street School and Hazleton High School, with a mass shooting, pipe bombs and possible diversion plan.

Chief of Police Jerry Speziale say Hazleton Police Department an investigation into the origin, threat, protection of the public and individual(s) responsible.

Luzerne County Communication Center was immediately notified by Hazleton Police Department of a possible threat and the Computer Aided Dispatch System was updated should there be a call for service or response required at any school facility in the area. Authorities say Chief Edward Harry of the Hazleton Area School District Police was also notified.

Following their investition police filed charges against Christian Earl Diehl of Hazleton, 28 years of age for the Threat to Use Weapons of Mass Destruction (Felony 3).

Just after 9PM hours, Diehl was located by the Hazleton Police at 6th Street and Church Street where he was arrested

Mayor Jeff Cusat issued a statement saying, “Clearly, in today’s world, a threat of this nature, must be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated, that’s why I made contact immediately.”

Chief  Speziale added, “I am proud of the teamwork displayed and the tireless efforts put forth by my entire team to ensure the public’s safety.”
