On Thursday January 31, 2019 at approximately 2:21AM Lancaster Police say they responded to an address on the 1st block of East Filbert Street for a report of a family disturbance. The caller told dispatchers that Michael Zahm had left the house with his 10 year old daughter and 13 year old son. The caller was the mother of the children and was concerned because Zahm was possibly intoxicated and neither child was dressed appropriately to be outside. Police say the outside air temperature at that time was 2 degrees (Fahrenheit) with a wind chill of – 5 degrees (f).
Officers say they obtained information from the caller and searched the area locating Zahm and the children in a foot alley. The children had been outside for approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes and Zahm exhibited signs of intoxication and was taken into custody according to authorities. The children were returned to the custody of their mother.
Lancaster Children and Youth Agency was police filed Criminal Complaint against Zahm before District Judge Witkonis, charging Zahm with (2) counts Endangering the Welfare of Children (F3) and Public Drunkenness (S). Zahm was processed on the complaint and held for arraignment.
Zahm was arraigned and committed to LCP in lieu of $10,000 bail.
