The City of Lancaster  conducted an unannounced retail food inspection on December 13, 2019. As a result of that inspection, and due to the severity of the specific violations the Lancaster County Prison was cited as being, “Out of Compliance” with Pennsylvania’s food safety regulations. During this inspection a total of 4 violations were found.

The prison last passed an inspection on January 31, 2018, when no violations were cited:

  • July 5, 2018-6 violations
  • October 5, 2018- 1 violation
  • April 30, 2019- 4 violations

The inspector made the following comments in support of the violations found during the inspection:

  • Floors near walls in the walk-in refrigerator and freezer units, all non-food contact surfaces, are in need of cleaning.
  • An open employee’s beverage container was observed in the food prep area. Corrected on site.
  • Inside ice makers, a food contact surface, need to be descaled.
  • Food facility inspection indicates evidence of rodent activity in the food storage area. The facility is working with a pest control program. Repeat violation.
