Harrisburg Police arrest man for aggravated assault and 6 other charges

Harrisburg. PA

On March 10, 2019, at approximately 1:19 am Harrisburg Police say they were dispatched to a residence on the 1500 block of State Street for a domestic incident.  The male suspect reportedly fled the scene before officers arrived.

While en route to the call, police say they observed a male that matched the description of the suspect in the area of S 17th and Mulberry Streets.  Officers say they contacted the male, who was later identified as Kevin Rios.

According to authorities Rios appeared to be under the influence of drugs.  They say Rios tried to flee and a physical altercation ensued between Rios and an officer.  Police say Rios continued to resist and fight with the officer and pulled and grabbed at the officer’s duty belt that held the officer’s firearm.

Police say during the struggle, an unidentified person approached and asked the Officer if he needed help.  The Officer indicated he did and  the individual assisted until other Officers arrived at the scene.   As police arrived they say Rios continued to fight.

According to police Rios was advised that a taser would be deployed.  The taser was ineffective and Rios once again attempted to flee; however, Rios tripped and fell.  After additional struggling, Rios was eventually detained, injuring an officer in the process.

Police say Rios had dropped a bag of marijuana during the struggle. Rios had also been carrying a 9mm firearm that was registered to someone else other than him.   Rios was taken to booking and subsequently charged with one count each of Aggravated Assault, Firearms Not to Be Carried W/O License, Escape, Resist Arrest, Tamper with Evidence, Public Drunkenness, and two counts of Drug Paraphernalia.
