Bloomsburg Police charge man for aggravated arson, other charges, after call about a suspicious person

Bloomsburg, PA

On Tuesday, June 9th, 2020 at just after midnight, the Bloomsburg Police Department was dispatched to the 400 block of East 8th Street for a suspicious person. The complainant stated they saw someone roaming around their backyard.  A second call to dispatch advised police a male suspect attempted to set their porch on fire but the resident was able to put the fire out.

Officers arrived on-scene and reviewed the victim’s video surveillance footage and observed the suspect attempted to light a fire on a stack of pallets under the deck and the steps of the deck with a liquid combustible. POlice say they were able to determine the direction the suspect had fled and set up a perimeter. Officer Edgar deployed his tracking K9 Miso and was able to track the suspect to his residence. Police say they made contact with a Michael J. Bozung II at the residence, who was found to match the suspect description on the video and was wearing the same shorts and sneakers as the suspect. 

Bozung was taken into custody and charged with Aggravated Arson (Felony 1), Risking a Catastrophe (Felony 3) and Recklessly Endangering Another Person (Misdemeanor 2). Bozung islodged at the Columbia County Prison.

The Bloomsburg Police Department was assisted with the investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.
