Police: Newville woman charged for theft scam against fire department

Newville, PA

On January 23, 2019 Newville Police say they received a report of theft from the Newville Fire Department.

Members of the department reported that on December 8, 2019, Ashley Hulsey, a social member, stole tickets while working the “small games of chance” table.

Police say the department provided the Newville Police with video surveillance of the incident which police reviewed.  Police allege the surveillance video shows Hulsey opening tickets that she did not pay for under the table and Hulsey giving away tickets without payment. According to police the video also shows Hulsey find a “Holder” (possible cash winner) from the tickets she did not pay for.

Police say Hulsey would give the found holders to another individual, who won, the money was then given back to Hulsey.

Hulsey was charged on Monday and faces the following charges:

Theft By Unlawful Taking or Disposition
Receiving Stolen Property
Theft by Deception
